love or guilt, which is it?

Someone asked me a question this morning.

"Why are we willing to sacrifice or help someone? It is because we love him/her or because we feel guilty?"

"ASIAN always feel guilty. They will act based on that. There will always be an element of kesian or emotional blackmail in our daily life." This is an observation from a Muslim convert who has been in Malaysia for almost 16 years, married to a Malay and has 2 kids.

Whether it's true or not, it's irrelavant to me. Imagine that you are asking a favor from your spouse, partners or someone that you love and they did it out of guilt, not becuase they want to! But, of course there will be another element in the equation la, which is sincerity or ikhlas... and how do you react?

So... whatever we do, are we doing it because we love it or because we feel guilty? If you ask me, I'm surrounded with people who always act based on GUILT!
