bad bosses, which one are you?

I'll be leaving for Sepang in three hours time and thought of putting this particular entry. I find this amusing especially during this Performance Planning Appraisals (PPA) period and after reading the Dade Ghost (DG) entry on "Office Politics" yesterday. Then again, it may not directly relevant to DG's topic.

Being a boss, doesn't matter whether runnng our own company, or being a salary paid manager or even a mid management level such as supervisors, does have one thing in common: dealing with other people.

Some don't like to be call boss. Most preferred to be called Managers, but as a leading one or a group of humans and these so called humans are under our responsibilities, classified us as a boss, like it or not.

There are some degrees of bosses. Check out which one us you:

1. The "Anything for the good of the company" Manager
   This species normally worked as it tomorrow is te end of the world. They worked through holidays, or even when they are sick like a dog! Continued working in the office even though both legs are broken due to a car crash! The bad part of these managers is they expect every other worker to be like him/her.
   
2. The Mean and Nasty Manager
   It may sound like a tale from a horror movie, but there are species of this type that pride in sacking other people. The reason, the sacked person wasn't showing the right level of commitment, by attending his/her mother's funeral rather than reporting to work... This type of manager, soon, one fine day, will suddenly realize that he is walking on a lonely path; no one will ever forget what he has done. When he needs a team to help him/her out of his/her difficulties, the staff will develop a selective deafness to his pleas.
   
3. The "Idiot Boss"
   Normally, these bosses will be the sons/daughter of the owner of the companies. Some would probably just the nephew or the nieces. They fully understand that they are untouchable, therefore, could never want to constantly improve themselves. They would hire and fire their assistants, and mostly the workloads are done by their workforce, rather than themselves or actively involved in it. To make it worst, some of these bosses do not have the academic qualifications or the expertise.
   
4. The "Now you-see-Now you don't" Boss
   Normally, these bosses are reporting to another higher ranking boss. These bosses then to show their capability, their existence during the big boss presence. They would always know when to come right before the bosses' visit. They would always look busy, running around asking form staffs things that sometimes already asked last week. As soon as the coast is clear, these bosses will be no where to be found! They are great magician or escape astiste! However, do not despair. These bosses will get caught sooner or later. All you have to do is sit back ad enjoy the "scene". Try not to involve in the "capturing" of these bosses, it would be sweeter if you could see his "captive" and are not involves with the process. Fools could run, but then cannot hide forever...

Always think of the greater goal. Always looked to the future. With these thoughts in mind, no matter what type of manager you are reporting to, you will do fine.
