lingo explained

I read this from The Star newspaper on 28th May 2005. Confused by the lingo? This may help but should not be taken as a comprehensive guide to lingerie.

Baby Doll
A nightgown that usually has an empire cut waistband just below the breasts, a swaying A-line skirt and hems just below the hip.

Bustier
A strapless bra with a tight-fitting bodice that goes down to the waist to sculpt the body and push up the breasts. It sometimes comes with under wire.

Camisole
A straight-line cut sleeveless bodice that stops at the waist or midriff. It is usually worn under see-thought blouses.

Chemise
This is much like the camisole, except longer, like a dress. It is sort of a sleeveless dress-length slip, but worn under a dress.

Corset
Tight-fitting sleeveless bodice, much like the bustier, but with straps, and pulled tight to the body to give it more shape. It often comes with under wire.

G-String
Much like a thong, the G-String is actually meant to avoid the dreaded “panty line” when wearing tight, clingy skirts or pants. The front fabric is connected with a thin fabric or elastic that rides along the hips and fits between the buttocks.

Negligee
A loose-fitting nightgown usually made of sheer fabric.

Teddy
A sleeveless bodysuit, like a swimsuit, but made of lace and with a flap over the crotch which can be unbuttoned.

Teddiettes
Much like a teddy but with garters attached.

Thong
Much Like G-string, except the thong has a bit more fabric going up the back.
