what do I do with this young lady?

Off-late Erja has been testing my patience. She is getting into my nerves at one point. Yes, I know, sabar is the word. But, tell me if I should condone her behavior...

  1. Extremely BOSSY. Nenek and Neksu jangan cakap la, always the victims. At 12:00 p.m. she wants to go to the playground. When the answer is NO, she will membebel sambil cekak pinggang. If I'm around, memang she kena!
  2. Bedtime is around 2:00 a.m. Even the lights is off at 11:00, she will merapu sorang-sorang in darkness. Aiyo...
  3. Artist in the making. Remember the wall? Argh... It is still there. I want to leave it as it is first. But, it makes me smile whenever I look at it.
  4. Singer and drama queen. All she wants to do is sing and sing and sing and sing and sing. Once she's done with the singing, she'll perform Asmaradana AF3 version pulak. Tak penat ke???
  5. Carrefour mania. Everyday, she will ask me. "Mimi, Ya nak gi Ka Pu (read : Carrefour). When I told her, "We go on the weekend, yes?". Then she start asking... "Mimi, Ya gi chu ming (read : swimming) boleh?
  6. Scrap book and bedtime story book. This is a must activity for her. Without fail, she will ask us to read the Gordilocks and the Three Bears. Then she insists us draw fish, star, balloon and cat in her scrap book. She will not stop until she satisfy with the drawing.

All these happen in one day. Tu pun, only half of the activities. Belum lagi, the whole day. Imagine if I have to find someone to baby sit her? Anyone?

men and their feelings, care to know?

This is my malas post. It's about men and their feelings. I got this from one male colleagues.

We often hear "rules" from female side. Now here are the rules from male side. I hope men realise that they might end up sleeping on the couch tonight once they share this with the wife, then again, men really don't mind that, yes? It's like camping.

Ladies, am not sure what you guys think about this. Let us treat this as part of education... perhaps understand the male species better? OK, let us ponder.

These are Men's Rules...
  1. Breasts are for looking at and that is why we do it. Don't try to change that!
  2. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.
  3. Saturday = sports. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
  4. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.
  5. Crying is blackmail.
  6. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one:
    Subtle hints do not work!
    Strong hints do not work!
    Obvious hints do not work!
    JUST SAY IT!
  7. "Yes" and "No" are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
  8. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.
  9. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.
  10. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.
  11. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.
  12. If something we said can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.
  13. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.
  14. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials.
  15. Christopher Columbus did not need directions and neither do we.
  16. ALL men see in only 16 colours, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a colour. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.
  17. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
  18. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.
  19. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, expect an answer you don't want to hear .
  20. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine, really.
  21. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as: sex, sport, or cars .
  22. You have enough clothes.
  23. You have too many shoes.
  24. I am in shape. Round is a shape.

Hmmm....

between family and work

My weekend was extremely busy with some family and work matters. Kena divide my time equally for both (family & work). Here how it goes...

Saturday
  1. Groceries shopping at Carrefour. The trip that is much awaited by Erja.
  2. Visit Farah & Keng and the newborn baby, Aulia Az-Zahra.
  3. Off to fetch Zizie at Ara Damansara. Then headed to Shah Alam Stadium for AF3. We were about half an hour late, but our "VIP" seats were safely reserved.

Sunday

  1. Went to the towers for Signing Ceremony rehearsal, which take almost the whole day.

Monday

"D" Day which went VERY smooth despite some minor hiccups.

A4 is a GREAT leader. This is her THANK YOU note to us, the committee members, immediately after the session...

Its finally over, huge sigh of relief from all of us...
Of course not everything went as per our plan but heart attacks aside (when Datuk Lim Keng Yaik arrived unaccompanied!!), on the whole, things went well. I would like to express my hearfelt gratitufe to each and everyone of you. All your hard work and tremendous effort made the event a success. To all those who stayed back late numerous times, those that made their way to work on Sunday for the rehearsals, the gentlemen that made their way to KLIA in the wee hours of the morning, all those in Tower 1 that had to put up with the last minute changes, the lovely ideas that were generated and last but not least the camaraderie, a very big THANK YOU.

weekend edition

Off we go to KCP for a swim on Saturday evening. I've already promised Erja that we will go swimming over the weekend. Abah can't join because of his MBA class and I guess I will have to manage her all by myself. Then again, this wasn't our first time.

She got too excited (as usual) when we reached the swimming pool. After 30 minutes deeping session in the pool, I noticed that people were looking at her. They were amused by Erja's character. Recognising the fact the she has a lot of admirers. Apa lagi, she show-off la... tunjuk all the skills that she has.

We were there for almost 2-hours, but she refused to come up. Puas dah memujuk. I had to call for an assistant. Her Abah came straight from class and tried hard to persuade this young lady. In the end, Erja will always listen to Abah...

Oh well!

Erja is ready for some action!

Erja in her bath robe with Abah. Check out the sunglasses!

Erja with her new Superman "piggy bank". Her Abah gave it to her later that night. We hope this will nurture saving habit in her.

why not?

Went to the Cold-Storage after lunch to grab a copy of NST, and saw FHM - 100 sexiest women in the world 2005, Malaysian Edition. Looking at my watch, it was already 2:10 p.m., I decided to get a copy of the FHM. Malas nak datang balik.

Back at my workstation, my office colleague saw the FHM magazine through the plastic bag. Can you believe he actually took it out and insist I unwrap the folder? Aiyo, macam ni pun ada ka?

Mr. Jay: Why do you read and buy FHM. Bukan ke this magazine for men?

The-Jamie: What's wrong with reading FHM or any male magazine? I'm sure there are some guys who buy and read female magazine, kan?

Mr. Jay: I buy Jelita, Wanita, Nona and Keluarga everymonth. But it's for the wife la.

The-Jamie: Oh well, I'm sure you tumpang sekaki or curi-curi baca those magazines.

I read all kind of magazines, regardless.

the least I can do

It was very satisfying after all the efforts we put it, finally paid off.

Alhamdullilah, Zawardy will be flying to the US tonight for the legal proceedings. His mother whom I call makcik called me last Saturday (11th June) asking for a favor on Zawardy’s visa application. According to him, it takes about 2 weeks to get the visa cleared due to some US Embassy’s requirement. His flight is on 16th June (Thursday). I doubt I can persuade the embassy people to do some kind of express clearance. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how I could help him because I am no longer with the scholarship department. Obviously, as usual, I told makcik that I’d try my best.

Zawardy has to be present for a legal matter regarding injuries he received in a fire that occurred at a dormitory while attending the University of Texas, Austin, Texas. He needs to prepare for and attend his deposition and the mediation of his case during the week of June 20, 2005. He would require to leave Malaysia on 16th June, 2005. Yes, it is today.

Come Monday (13th June) morning, I called Madam Baddy, our Corporate Security Officer if she can follow-up in Zawardy’s visa application. She then asked me to call “this guy" from the US Embassy and see how he can assist us. Called and sms’ed all the information required to “this guy” and he said to wait for his phone call. Have not heard anything from “this guy" until late yesterday. Not wanting to kacau him too much, I only sms’ed and e-mailed him for an update. This morning I got the reply form him.

His e-mail read as follows;

Hi Jamie,
Sorry for the delay. I got your phone message late last evening and at this point, the status is still the same. Please write to the consular section through email and they could answer your questions, regarding this matter.

klconsular@state.gov

Thanks
***

I had to break that bad news to Zawardy. He have to forget about travelling to the US tonight and need inform his lawyer that the hearing have to be postponed. At the same time, I asked for Mr. Colwell, the officer at the Embassy's number. Then again, Zawardy didn’t see any reason for me to do that anymore. My words to him were,

“Our battle is not over yet. Your flight is tonight; at least I have another few hours to negotiate. It is just a phone call away, anyway. Kalau tak dapat, at least we’ve tried all other means. Let me make this last attempt.”

Cut to the chase, Mr. Conwell breaks another shocking news! The visa is approved. I was so pleased and jolly happy. Alhamdullilah I'm glad I made that last attempt.

So, off he goes tonight.

***

Here’s a very brief story about the Zawardy and the incident.

Zawardy Ab. Latiff, a petroleum-engineering sophomore, suffered second and third degree burns over 45 percent of his body. He received life-threatening injuries in a May 1st blaze at University Towers dormitory. Unfortunately, Anoor Hajee his roommate, 19-year-old student died of smoke inhalation. He was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

Note: I was together with Zawardy in Texas one-day after the incident. I had to go there after a 12-hours notice from the Management to attend to the case back in May 2001.

istighfar

Seeking forgiveness from Allah swt.

I read this articles written by Khalid Baig and I choose to record it as a self-reminder to me.

"Truly, Allah swt loves those who repent, and He loves those who cleanse themselves."
[Al-Baqarah 2:222]

Tauba (repentance) and istighfar (seeking forgiveness from Allah swt) are among the most meritorious acts of virtue for the believers.

Tauba means feeling remorse for our actions or omissions.
Istighfar means expressing that remorse in words and begging Allah swt for forgiveness.

The act for which we perform tauba and istighfar is not necessarily a sin, or an act of disobedience to Allah swt; it also includes our shortcomings. We need istighfar to constantly purify and cleanse our heart. We are not born in sin, but we are born in weakness. We are prone to fall prey to the many temptations that are part of our test in this life.

"O Allah! You are my Lord. There is no God except You. You created me and I am Your slave. To the best of my ability, I will abide by my covenant and pledge to You. I seek Your protection form the evil of my own creation. I acknowledge Your favors to me and I admit my sins. So pleasae forgive me for no one can forgive sins except you."

sleepless night for F1 - montreal

It's past mid-night. Erja already asleep and I'm sitting in front of the TV waiting for the F1 Canadian Grand Prix. The time different is a bit odd, but here I am anxiously waiting to watch Kimi Raikkonen in action. It will be another interesting race, with Button at the pole position, followed by Schumie and Alonso. Kimi is on 8th and will start at the row four together with Villeneuve.

My guess is Kimi will be running on heavy fuel loads and let's see what kind of pit-stop strategy for the rest of the teams. Of course, we will only know what respective fuel loads everyone was running once the race gets underway just in few minutes. Normally, the team strategies remain closely guarded secrets until the first round of pits stops.

So, who is really the quickest? It’s hard to say, but I expect the McLarens (Kimi) and Renaults (Alonso) to be very strong, assuming they can get past Button and Schumie on the front row of the grid.

Rev the engines!

small thoughts

Let's observe these five simple rules to be happy:
  1. Free your heart from hatred
  2. Free your mind from worries
  3. Live simply
  4. Give more, and
  5. Expect less

I try to understand each of the sentence, and think how does it impact me. Most importantly how do I do it. No one could force me to change if I resist to change. I'm the one who can make the call . It's up to me... me... me...

And this is what I think...

No one can go back and make a brand new start. Anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way.

Disappointments are like road humps, they slow us down a bit but we will enjoy the smooth road afterwards. Don't stay on the humps too long. Move on!

  • When we feel down because we didn't get what we want, just sit tight and be happy, because God is thinking of something better to offer us. InsyaAllah...
  • When we truly care for someone, don't look for faults and mistakes. Fight the mistakes, accept the faults and overlook the excuses, and
  • When something happens to us, good or bad, consider what it means. There's a purpose to life's events, to teach us how to laugh more or not to cry too hard.

We can't make someone love us, all we can do is to be someone who can be loved, the rest is up to the person to realise our worth. The measure of love is when we love without measure. I think in life, there are very rare chances that we'll meet the person we love and loves us back in return. So, once we have it don't ever let go. The chance might never come our way again.

Perhaps, it's better to lose our pride to the one we love, than to lose the one we love because of pride. Most often than not, we spend too much time looking for the right person to love or finding fault with those we already love, when instead we should be "perfecting" the love we give.

Finally, this something that I want to remember...

Never abandon old friends, we will never find one who can take the place.

take a "chill" pill

You will have lots of frustration with this!!! It's tougher than you first expect. Try this color test and I promise you you'll take it more than once.

My first attempt I got 75%, only...

new model for mclaren mercedes

Erja with her Abah's Kimi [big one] and Mika mini helmet.

baton from MzMin

And now it's my turn after she decided to pass the baton to me. Thanks to her. This is something I would love to participate and I hope these batons will carry on. So here it goes...

How many books do I own?
Never keep track of them. About 100 plus, methinks.

The last book I bought?

  1. The Zahir by Paulo Coelho
  2. Personality Plus by Florence Littauer
  3. Pantun dan Gurindam Untuk Majlis Perkahwinan dan Majlis Rasmi by Prof. Abdullah Hassan, Aripin Said dan Ainon Mohd.

The last book I read?
Riding the Bus with My Sister by Rachel Simon.
It's about Beth, a spirited woman with mental retardation who spends nearly everyday riding the busses in her Pennsylvania city. A heartwarming, life-affirming journey through both the present and the past. I now can appreciate and have better respect for people with mental retardation, and the families who love and cherish them.

Five books that mean a lot to me?
Hmmm… in no particular order,

  1. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
It tells the true story about the relationship built between an old professor and one of his former students. Morrie, the old professor, is dying from an incurable illness. He lives his life looking through a window from a chair in his study, which is also the setting of nearly the entire story. It taught me so much about how to live, and to always live life to the fullest. Morrie is blessed with the ability to give great advice, and that is his greatest gift to Mitch. I learned right along with Mitch from Morrie's advice while reading the story; I learned to give back to life what you take from it, and to be there for others. Mitch had always been too afraid to express his feelings about things like love, marriage, and death, and Morrie taught him that it's ok to express those feelings. In fact, it's crucial. This is an incredibly heart warming book that, in the end, teaches anyone who reads it, an important lesson on life.
  2. 11 Minutes by Paulo Coelho
It is a very realistic view of a real life and true love, and how people life can change every minute. I found this novel to be disturbing, entertaining, intriguing and startling. It is a story that most women can relate to on some level I think, although at times I found the character to be a bit cliche'. Paulo wrote the character and story very insightfully. I have never read any book twice but this one, I have read 3 times. Such an amazing and touching story.
  3. It’s about the bike: My journey back to life by Lance Armstrong and Sally Jenkis
This novel has taught me that the little pain I go through during a race or practice is nothing compared to the suffering that Lance Armstrong went through during his battle with cancer. Lance Armstrong’s heroic story now serves as inspiration to me whenever I depressed. For Lance to get back on the bike after going through his battle with cancer is a wonderful story in itself, but for him to keep on winning the Tour de France every year is an even more incredible accomplishment. Lance Armstrong is a tremendous inspiration for anyone, let alone sportsmen. This book is sheer account of courage and determination; and a strong will to overcome any obstacle. Hats off to Lance.
  4. Perjalanan Rabbani by Prof. Madya Dr Musa Bin Fathullah Harun
I bought the book from The Reader. My mom is seriously reading it. It gives us the understanding of the purpose of our life and guides us to live this life and to return to Allah swt.
  5. Bridget Jones Diary by Helen Fielding
It is obvious that you will find Bridget close to you in this book, especially if you are single, well educated but still alone. I enjoyed reading it and this book is just for the ones who like watching Ally McBeal.

Five more people to tag

  1. Lin
  2. Stellar
  3. The Torqxic
  4. Frankensteina
  5. MarinaDelRey
  6. Additional - and those folks who wish to carry on the baton -

So, there you have it...

al-fatihah

Fauzi sms’ed me around midnight informing that DZ’s [Dzalina] mother passed away at 9:39 p.m. last night. I couldn’t go back to sleep after that.

I went to DZ’s house around 8:30 this morning. Bumped into her at the neighbour’s house and she looked [very] calm. DZ wanted to talk and we sat down for about 10 minutes. Deep inside her, I know she redha and pasrah with all the ujian and dugaan from Allah swt. She had given the best to her mom till her last moment.

DZ’s advice to me,
[Jamie] jaga your mother dengan seikhlas hati. Nothing is more satisfying than taking care of your parents. Do it [Jamie]. You’ve been through what I went through, and now it’s my mom.

I hugged her and never a word from me.

DZ’s mother whom I called Auntie was a very strong woman. She suffered from cancer for God knows how long and she was a real fighter.

Semoga roh Auntie dicucuri rahmat dan ditempatkan bersama-sama orang yang beriman.
Al-Fatihah.

uncultivated memories

Even though we can rationalise why we have a bad memory, no one wants to hear about it. Pay attention to PEOPLE's NAME, write things down, and try to take note where we left our CAR and our CHILD.

place I'd rather be

Happy Tips from a dear friend. Maybe because it's Monday and School Holiday, no?
  • It's more important to be happy than to be right.
  • You can either be happy, or unhappy. Choose happy.
  • Live life with an open hand, an open mind, and an open heart.
  • Compliment three people everyday.
  • Watch a sunrise.
  • Be the first to say "Hello."
  • Don't waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.
  • Treat everyone as you want to be treated.
  • Never give up on anybody; miracles happen.
  • Forget the Jones's.
  • Remember someone's name.
  • Pray not for things, but for wisdom and courage.
  • Be tough-minded, but tender hearted.
  • Be kinder than you have to be.
  • Don't forget that a person's greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.
  • Keep your promises.
  • Learn to show cheerfulness even when you don't feel it.
  • Remember that overnight success usually takes 15 years.
  • Leave everything better than you found it.
  • Remember that winners do what losers don't want to do.
  • When you arrive at your job in the morning, let the first thing you say brighten everyone's day.
  • Don't rain on other people's parades.
  • Live beneath your means.
  • Keep some things to yourself and don't promote havoc by backstabbing people you love.
  • Stop Rushing Past Life
  • Let Go!

Alternative Happy Tips

  • Whatever it is, if you really want to eat it, eat it!
  • Never piss off anyone who has access to you when you are asleep.
  • Never argue with a pregnant woman.

Tips for a Healthy Mind

  • Positivity rules
Try to stay open-minded and positive. Negative, rigid and inflexible attitudes decrease your ability to deal with the stresses of life and prevent you from enjoying yourself.
  • Get your zzz's
Be sure to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Fatigue can interfere with the information you have already stored and your ability to learn new things.
  • Beneficial B12
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to serious and irreversible physiological and psychological problems. Get your intake from foods of animal origin like meat, fish, eggs and dairy products.
  • Stress-free solutions
To combat stress, go outside for a brisk walk instead of smoking a cigarette. Reach for your running shoes instead of the TV remote or a chocolate bar. Regular physical activity (at least 30 minutes a day for most days of the week) and a healthy, balanced, low-fat diet will not only make you feel better but help you to better manage your stress.
  • Morning energy
Need a boost in the mornings? Time your coffeemaker so that the aroma of coffee coincides with your alarm. Sing in the shower. Use lotions with stimulating scents such as mint. Plan at least one fun thing to do each day. Eat breakfast. Listen to a radio station that makes you laugh – laughter is one of the best energizers around!

can do with another quotes?

Workshop finished much earlier than expected.

Yeah...

I'm meeting Torque and Keng around 6:00 p.m. at the towers to discuss on our racing team proposal and it's only 4:30 p.m. While waiting for the clock ticking, I decided to hang around for another hour here and enjoy the free internet access for another hour.

I'm thankful that the company annouces an off-day for us tomorrow in-lieu of the King's Birthday on Saturday.

Yippie Dooooo...

So people, these are sports quote from some famous athlete. Kononnya, it's the best of the best.

Doctors and scientists said that breaking the four-minute mile was impossible, that one would die in the attempt. Thus, when I got up from the track after collapsing at the finish line, I figured I was dead.
Roger Bannister (After becoming the first person to break the four-minute mile, 1952)

Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision.
Muhammad Ali, American Boxer

When I step onto the court, I don't have to think about anything. If I have a problem off the court, I find that after I play, my mind is clearer and I can come up with a better solution. It's like therapy. It relaxes me and allows me to solve problems.
Michael Jordan

My thoughts before a big race are usually pretty simple. I tell myself: Get out of the blocks, run your race, stay relaxed. If you run your race, you'll win... channel your energy. Focus.
Carl Lewis

My dad has always taught me these words: care and share. That's why we put on clinics. The only thing I can do is try to give back. If it works, it works.
Tiger Woods

I'm tired of hearing about money, money, money, money, money. I just want to play the game, drink Pepsi, wear Reebok.

le meridien, another day to go

While browsing through some of her latest pictures which I've just downloaded, I choose this. I then realised, I have not published Erja's picture for ages.

Asked hubby to send Erja and my mom to the hotel yesterday afternoon. She wanted to deep into the swimming pool, but her Nenek forbid because she just recovered from fever. What to do. Sorry, Erja... Mimi can't help you on that. Next time OK?

time for some marriage quotes

I will not be in the office for 2-days to attend a workshop organised by the unit. Tried my luck to check network availability, and walla... I got it! This hotel is kind enough to give free internet access for whole duration of our stay. Yeah... While others are busy debating on business targets for this financial year, I decided to take a step back and update the blog.

We know very well that during this school holiday, we will be flooded with tones of wedding invites. I know for sure she is ending her singlehood soon, my cousin this weekend and few of my good friends next weekend. What ever it is, I pray for your happiness...

I found these quotes while web browsing this morning. I think it's sweet.

Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.
Aristotle

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.
Germaine Greer

To keep your marriage brimming, with love in the wedding cup, whenever you're wrong, admit it; whenever you're right, shut up.
Ogden Nash

To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage.
Lao Tzu

It took great courage to ask a beautiful young woman to marry me. Believe me, it is easier to play the whole Petrushka on the piano.
Arthur Rubinstein

Two such as you with such a master speed cannot be parted nor be swept away from one another once you are agreed that life is only life forevermore together wing to wing and oar to oar.
Robert Frost

There is nothing nobler or more admirable than when two people who see eye to eye keep house as man and wife, confounding their enemies and delighting their friends.
Homer

Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.
Roy Goodman

Two souls with but a single thought. Two hearts that beat as one.
Friedrich Halm

There is no more lovely, friendly and charming relationship, communion or company than a good marriage.
Martin Luther
